Family Service Centers: Eleven Family Service Centers are located throughout the five-county metropolitan area. Emergency assistance includes clothing cupboards and food pantries, rent or utility bill assistance, housing referrals, and case management. Adults benefit from employment training, ESL classes, GED preparation, job placement assistance, after-school programs, pregnancy and parenting support, cooking and other life skills training, parenting classes and peer support groups. A Pregnancy Hotline assists those confronting crisis pregnancies, and post-abortion counseling and support are also available. Services to seniors include weekday programs offering nutritious lunches and social and recreational activities, and support and assistance to isolated, homebound elderly. Immigrants benefit from translation services, legal counsel, and referral to other services in the community. Counseling Services: Licensed therapists offer counseling to individuals, married couples, and families to help them deal with stress and anxiety, substance abuse, relationship conflicts, and other behavioral or mental health issues. Fees for counseling are modest and most insurance plans are accepted. Immigration Services: Bi-lingual staff provides low-cost assistance in document preparation, legal counsel and representation, translation services, and access to applicable social services. Out of School Programs: School-based community centers that offer an array of creative after-school activities in the late afternoon, early evening, and some Saturdays, aimed at youth development and family support. Senior Community Centers: Offer local seniors the opportunity to enjoy hot meals, social and recreational events, art and music activities, spirituality programs, and day trips. Seniors also receive classes about health and nutrition, consumer issues, and computer usage, all free of charge. Teen Placement Diversion Program: Provides intensive in-home intervention as an alternative to foster care placement for at-risk children and their families. Homeless Services: With the ranks of homeless men, women and children unfortunately rising in difficult economic times, Catholic Social Services stands ready to continue its commitment to help thousands of people find a hot meal and a safe place to stay through a network of shelters and residences. Developmental Program: Offers persons with developmental disabilities a continuum of care designed to enhance their quality of life by promoting individuality, empowering personal choice, promoting dignity and respect, and nourishing a family spirit rooted in Christian faith and values. Youth Services: St. Joseph’s House for Homeless Industrious Boys and St. Francis de Sales Industrial School were established to care for orphaned and abandoned boys. The St. Gabriel's System is a multi-service agency that provides residential and community-based services for court adjudicated delinquent youth between the ages of 10 and 19 years old. St. Vincent's Home is a community-based residential program that provides long-term residential services for over 60 at-risk adolescent girls. Nutritional Development Services: Provides food and related technical assistance to other organizations supplying food to individuals and families, in particular the poor and most especially children in need. Catholic Health Care Services (CHCS): Provides short and long term nursing care at six skilled nursing homes, two assisted living and three independent living facilities throughout the region. CHCS offers also senior adult day programs, oversees a Parish Nurse program, and provides a comprehensive assessment service for the elderly. Office for Community Development (OCD): Serves as a catalyst to identify and mobilize the resources necessary to promote neighborhood transformation in targeted, disadvantaged communities of Philadelphia.
